Musashi emerged from my frustration with sword-fighting mechanics in existing combat games that never quite captured the nuance and satisfaction of authentic blade combat. Inspired by games like For Honor and Dark Souls, I set out to create a more refined sword-fighting experience.
This project represents an intense month of development where I handled all aspects of creation personally. I programmed the entire game in Unity using C#, creating core combat mechanics that emphasize skill and precision. Additionally, I crafted most of the 3D assets myself, including the detailed character arm animations that were critical for the fluid sword movement system.
The game features a polished single level with two primary gameplay elements: - Combat against enemy NPCs with sophisticated AI - Bamboo cutting practice to master sword control
Despite its single-level scope, the project achieves a remarkably professional aesthetic with attention to environmental detail and lighting effects. The end result serves as both a satisfying game experience and a compelling proof of concept that sword-fighting mechanics in games can be significantly improved.
What makes this one of my favorite personal projects was the complete creative control and the satisfaction of transforming my vision for better sword combat into a playable experience that looks and feels professional.
