During the summer of 2025, I joined Innate, a small and highly focused robotics startup in Palo Alto. As part of an intense three-person team, I had the opportunity to contribute across a wide range of domains in a fast-paced environment. The experience was incredibly gratifying, offering a unique chance to shape a product from its early stages and see the immediate impact of my work.
My primary focus was on the robot's physical design and hardware. I designed the entire exterior, giving the robot its distinct form, and completely redesigned its arm for higher precision and new functionalities. I also developed a novel leader-arm system for intuitive smartphone-based control. This involved designing a custom enclosure, a spring-loaded phone mount, and a versatile PCB that was also integrated into the robot's head, which I also designed.
On the software side, I contributed to the robot's agentic system, enhancing its autonomous capabilities. This included developing a new behavior for playing chess, creating a flexible system capable of playing on any standard board. To help with product visualization and marketing, I also produced a series of 3D renders. The multi-faceted role was a fantastic learning experience in integrating hardware and software to create a cohesive product.
