Fab2 : Turbomolecular Drag Pump
Independently developed a compact turbomolecular drag pump at Fab2, giving each tool its own vacuum so tools could run in parallel and increasing chip throughput by 10x.

I spent ~100 days on the vacuum systems team at [Fab2](https://fab2.com/) (formerly Atomic Semi), working on a single project the whole time.
All the tools in the machine shared a common vacuum, which meant they couldn't run in parallel. I independently developed a small turbomolecular drag pump that fits on each tool, giving every tool its own vacuum. This let all the tools work at the same time and increased chip throughput by 10x.
While waiting on parts, I spent a few weeks in the machine shop and helped machine 100+ parts on the CNC mill and lathe, including shafts held to tolerance bands under 4 microns on diameter. I also designed an XY stage for a chip cleaning machine.
Details are kept light due to an NDA.
